16 Years of Second Chances: When a Good Idea Becomes a God Idea

Diverse hands join in a circle on a tiled floor. People wear colorful, patterned clothing, symbolizing unity and collaboration.

There are moments when you look around and realize that what started as a simple desire to help became something much bigger than you.

As I left Re-Entry Solutions, I found myself reflecting on where we began. Sixteen years ago, when we first started, we were not the new kid on the block. We were the only kid on the block. We stepped into a space because there was a need, and we believed somebody had to care enough to do something.

That is how Re-Entry Solutions began.

Not with perfect conditions.

Not with unlimited resources.

Not with a crowd of people cheering us on.

It began with a desire to help, a willingness to serve, and a burden to make a difference.

And here we are, 16 years later, still standing for second chances.

That is why I say this with everything in me: do not underestimate the power of a good idea. Sometimes a good idea is not just a good idea. Sometimes it is a God idea.

A God idea does not always look big in the beginning. It may start as a burden in your heart. It may begin with one family, one person, one problem, one need, or one community issue that will not leave you alone. But when God gets in the middle of it, that idea can grow into impact, service, healing, restoration, and legacy.

Over the last 16 years, Re-Entry Solutions has helped hundreds of people through employment support, housing assistance, family restoration, comfort, encouragement, and practical help during hard seasons. We have watched people walk through our doors carrying shame, uncertainty, fear, and frustration, and we have had the privilege of being part of their second-chance journey.

But André and I could not have done this alone.

To every community partner, whether you were there in the beginning, joined us along the way, or supported from a distance, thank you. Whether your role seemed large or small, it mattered. Every referral, every resource, every donation, every connection, every word of encouragement, every act of support helped someone get closer to help, hope, and stability.

You were part of the work.

To my team, past and present, thank you. Some people stay for a season. Some people stay for years. Some come in at the beginning, some in the middle, and some arrive right when the need is greatest. God knows who is needed, when they are needed, and how their part fits into the bigger picture.

To my interns, thank you. You helped in ways that were meaningful, impactful, and needed. You brought your time, energy, and willingness to learn into a mission that touches real lives. Never underestimate what you contributed.

To my family and friends, thank you for putting up with what I call my compulsive need to help. Thank you for understanding that service has always been part of my heart. Thank you for making room for the late nights, the long days, the calls, the needs, the interruptions, and the weight that comes with caring deeply.

To my immediate family, thank you for walking with me while I served God and others with all my heart and all my might.

And to my teachers and mentors through the years, thank you for teaching me that whatever I do, I must do it with excellence. You helped me understand that my work represents more than me. It represents God. It represents my family. It represents my community. It represents the people who poured into me.

That lesson was not wasted.

Sixteen years later, I can say this clearly: the work was not in vain.

The lives touched were worth it.

The sacrifices mattered.

The partnerships mattered.

The prayers mattered.

The small acts mattered.

The good idea mattered.

And the God idea is still producing fruit.

The Legacy Lesson is this: never dismiss the idea God placed in your heart just because it starts small. Small does not mean insignificant. Quiet does not mean powerless. Slow does not mean unsuccessful. Sometimes God plants something in you long before others can understand what it will become.

You may be carrying an idea right now. It may be for your family, your community, your business, your ministry, your school, your church, or someone in need. You may wonder whether it is worth pursuing. You may wonder whether it will matter.

Here is the truth: when God gets in the middle of an idea, impact can outlive the moment it started in.

Re-Entry Solutions is proof that second chances matter. It is proof that community matters. It is proof that service matters. It is proof that one burden, when surrendered to God, can become 16 years of help, hope, and restoration.

So thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

To everyone who has supported, served, referred, prayed, partnered, encouraged, volunteered, interned, worked, donated, or simply believed in the mission, you are part of this legacy.

Sixteen years down. Sixteen plus more to go.

And whatever good idea God has placed in your heart, do not underestimate it.

It may just be a God idea.

Legacy Nugget:

A God idea may start as a burden, but when it is stewarded with faithfulness, service, and community, it can become a legacy.
